My Challenge to You

Happy 2015! I hope the first few days of the year have treated you well!!

Some of you have heard about the challenge I’ve set for myself, as well as my clients and friends this new year. Here it is if you haven’t heard. Starting today we will reduce the amount of sugar in our diets. Not all sugar is found in candy or the teaspoon you use for your coffee in the morning. Sugars are hidden throughout our food and drinks. I would like to extend this challenge to you as well.

Today I’d like to share a list of the sneaky names sugar will sometimes go by.  My advice to you is to read labels and become educated on what those tricky hard to pronounce words are. Here is a  “sneaky sugar” list to get you started.

Sugar (brown, white, cane, raw, beet, etc.)

Syrup (malt, rice, high fructose corn syrup)

Dextrose, fructose, sucrose, ribose, lactose

“Natural Sugars”- Agave, coconut sugar, honey, cane juice, molasses, maple syrup

Sugar alcohols- Xylitol, sorbitol, HSH, glycol, glycerin, arabitol

I would also encourage you to stay away from artificial sweeteners as well. There are many reasons for this that we will dive into on the next blog but the first one is that they may disrupt our normal metabolism, causing weight gain. Yes, you read that correctly!

Here are some artificial sweeteners to limit or stay away from~

Aspartame, Equal, Nutra-Sweet, Saccharin, Splenda, Stevia, Sweet-N-Low and Truvia

It is hard to keep ourselves accountable, find a friend, nutritionist or Personal Trainer that isn’t afraid to call you out. It’s difficult in the beginning but trust me, it will pay off! If you plan on joining me like this post or send me a message, I would love to hear how you are doing!

Here’s to you, may 2015 be your year!
