Hearty, Easy and Delicious Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of my go to meals. It is pretty simple, nutritious, and very versatile with the different ingredients you can add. I love the Soulful Project oatmeal blend but you can easily add things like chia and flax to your plain oats. I’m gluten free and for years I was unable to partake in oatmeal. While oats are gluten free there is a lot of cross contamination issues with oats, even those labeled gluten free oats. This is the first brand I’ve been able to eat without issue! So, thank you to The Soulful Project for not only helping others with a mobile food pantry but also making a great product I can enjoy! Now, on to the fun of creating a great bowl of oatmeal! I always make oats on the stove, it is just my preference, I can control the consistency a little more that way. As far as add in go, try to keep the amount of sweet to just one of the ingredients, not multiple (ex. maple sugar, honey, brown sugar, etc) add ins from this catagory.

Fruit: The choices are pretty endless here but, here are my favorites!

  • Frozen or Fresh Cherries
  • Frozen or Fresh Blueberries
  • Fresh Bananas (I don’t like mushy bananas, just a preference)
  • Fresh or Frozen Peaches
  • Precooked Apples (So they are soft but not mushy)
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries

Nuts: Again, so many choices here but, I’m going to add a good fruit combo for you.

  • Pecans (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, cherries, apples, peaches) So… I like pecans, haha!
  • Walnuts (cherries, blackberries, apples or bananas)
  • Peanuts (bananas and apples)

Sweet: Remember, a little goes a long ways when you also have fruit.

  • Honey
  • Maple Syrup
  • Brown Sugar
  • Raw Sugar
  • Agave

Other: You can really get creative here! These are my favorites.

  • Flax
  • Chia
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Cardamon
  • Hemp seeds
  • Quinoa
  • Ginger (really good with peaches or apples)
I mean, come on, so yummy!

Just keep your mind open to new combinations, sometimes its fun to play around with ingredients in something like oatmeal because you are kind of starting with a blank canvas!

Enjoy my friends!!

P. S. I’ve been known to eat oatmeal for any meal or snack of the day, quick, easy and delish!
